It's never too late to start playing. The Adult Hockey Academy program is designed for brand-new adult hockey players (16 and up) and skaters who have taken a break from the game and are looking to get back on the ice or involved in a league. Skaters will participate in a mixture of station-based drills, followed by controlled scrimmages that simulate league play, allowing them to progress at a faster pace. Each station emphasizes a different skill that helps with skating, stick handling, and more. Controlled scrimmages will be phased-in by means of small area games, allowing skaters to test their skills.

Rental skates are available at the information desk, if needed.

Equipment must be provided by player.

Adult Open Hockey sessions are generally designed for skaters ages 18 and above who want to skate with full gear, a stick, and a puck. Different than a public skating session where skaters can just skate, skaters during open hockey sessions can work on their individual skills or play small hockey games with others.

There are three types of Adult Open Hockey sessions offered at StarCenter rinks: Adult Drop-In,Adult Stick & Puck, and Parent & Child.

Adult Drop In & Adult Stick and Puck: Skaters must pre-register online before attending adult drop-in. Adult drop-in sessions are $22 per session. There are separate registrations for skaters and goalies.

Parent & Child Hockey: Parent & Child Open Hockey sessions are designed to give parents the opportunity to skate with their kids, have fun, and work on skill development while spending quality time together. Parents may bring up to three children to a session. No players may attend a session without a parent on the ice.

During parent and child sessions, children must wear full equipment at all times, including an approved helmet with facemask. Parents must wear a minimum of skates, hockey gloves, and an approved hockey helmet. Full equipment for parents is strongly encouraged. Private instructional lessons are NOT allowed during parent and child sessions. The maximum number of players allowed on the ice is twenty-four skaters and four goaltenders.

You must pre-register online before attending. Parent and child sessions are $28 per session. This price includes one parent and one child. A second or third skater may attend at a reduced price of $14 each.
