TRY - DALLAS STARS ROOKIES PROGRAM

Registration for the Dallas Stars Rookies Program, presented by GEICO, at the Children's Health StarCenter Multisport Northlake is now open!

The Dallas Stars are dedicated to finding new and interesting activities to help children stay active while developing hockey fans for life. As part of this focus, we are pleased to offer the Rookies program, presented by GEICO, across multiple ice facilities in Texas. We want to make it easy for everyone to get on the ice and have the opportunity to play, regardless of age or skill level.

NORTHLAKE LITTLE ROOKIES (AGES 4-8)

PLAY - HOCKEY ACADEMY

Pre-Hockey: 45 minute class focusing on the beginning stages of learning to skate - forward and backward skating, swizzles, one-foot glides, and snowplow stops. Hockey gear is required. No sticks or pucks at this stage. All players must pass Pre Hockey before entering Hockey Academy.

Hockey Academy: 45 minute training session incorporating USA Hockey ADM-style drills, skill stations, and games. Players are divided by skill level. Hockey gear is required.

COMPETE - DALLAS STARS METRO HOCKEY LEAGUE (SPRING)

Since 1993, the DSMHL has provided an age and skill-appropriate structure for players who have advanced through our Little Rookies and Academy programs and are ready to begin team-based competition. The league continues to be run with one goal in mind – to give young players aged 4-18 an opportunity to learn and play the game in a positive developmental atmosphere that is impactful and fun!

Youth Open Hockey sessions are generally designed for skaters who want to skate with full gear, a stick, and a puck. These sessions are different than a Public Session, where skaters can just skate, skaters during Open Hockey sessions can work on their individual skating or stick-handling skills or play small hockey games with their friends.

There are two types of YOH sessions offered at StarCenter Rinks:

  • Youth Open Hockey (Ages 12 & Under): This session is for hockey players who participate in a youth hockey league that are 12 and younger. 
  • Youth Open Hockey (Ages 13-18): This session is for hockey players who participate in a youth hockey league that are ages 13 to 18. 

Pricing & Guidelines:

  • Admission fee per session: $22
  • 10-session punch card: $180
  • Full equipment must be worn at all times, including an approved helmet with facemask. No half-shields are allowed. No coaches or private lessons are allowed on the ice during YOH sessions. The maximum number of players allowed on the ice is twenty-four skaters and four goaltenders.
  • You must pre-register online before attending a session. If you are a player, you may call the rink on the day of scheduled Youth Open Hockey session to reserve a spot any time after 9:00 a.m. In order for your reservation to be honored, you must pay for the slot at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, or it will be released. You are welcome to pay over the phone at the time that you make your reservation.

Hockey Pro-Time

Sessions are designed for Hockey Instructors to give private instructional lessons.

Instructors

Cost: $90 per session for Instructors

  • A maximum number of six coaches will be permitted on one Pro Time Sessions.
  • All instructors must sign in at the Front Desk and pay Pro-Rent before they take the ice for their session.
  • Any Instructor caught on the ice who has not paid will immediately be asked to leave the building for the remainder of the day. You will NOT be allowed to pay after the fact and finish the session. Repeat offenses will result in expulsion from all StarCenters for an indefinite period of time.

Players

  • Players will sign up for lessons directly through their instructor.
  • All players must have a waiver on file at the rink signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Full equipment must be worn at all times, including an approved helmet with facemask. No half shields allowed.

Parent & Child Hockey

Parent & Child Open Hockey sessions are designed to give parents the opportunity to skate with their kids, have fun, and work on skill development while spending quality time together. Parents may bring up to three children to a session. No players may attend a session without a parent on the ice.

During parent and child sessions, children must wear full equipment at all times, including an approved helmet with facemask. Parents must wear a minimum of skates, hockey gloves, and an approved hockey helmet. Full equipment for parents is strongly encouraged. Private instructional lessons are NOT allowed during parent and child sessions. The maximum number of players allowed on the ice is twenty-four skaters and four goaltenders.

You must pre-register online before attending. Parent and child sessions are $28 per session. This price includes one parent and one child. A second or third skater may attend at a reduced price of $14 each.
